She was born in Philadelphia, having a father that was also a great chess player (FIDE Master) while her brother is an international master. In the world of poker, she is a MindSports Ambassador for PokerStars and a coach on Run It Once. 

The first recorded win of Jennifer Shahade is the 17th place at the $ 1,000 World Championship Ladies Event No Limit Hold'em, 38th World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2007, Las Vegas. At this even she cashed in $8,426. 

She then had some small winnings in 2008, 2011 and 2012, but her first major cash prize was at the Championship Main Event 2013 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, where she finished on the 62nd spot and won $ 29,088.
